West African Drumming!!!

Join an energetic group of explorers as we learn traditional Malinke, Kassouke and Manian rhythms.

 

Cultural background, history, and geography enrich your understanding of the music, as well as the culture from which it comes.

Solo techniques are covered for intermediate and advanced players.

 

Djembes and dununs are the main instruments for the class.  Dununs (bass drums) are supplied, and djembes are available to rent, but call ahead as supplies are limited.

Carl received his Master of Music degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1998, and his undergraduate degree in Music Education from the same institution in 1993.  He studies Malinke music with Mamady Keita when Mamady’s yearly U.S. tour reaches the East Coast.
