Doctoral Internship (3rd - 4th Grade)

Fall 2001

Duties included working daily with gifted mathematics students in a 3rd – 4th -grade classroom. Accelerated Math and Star Math were used to monitor students’ mathematical level and to guide them through a fifth grade mathematics curriculum.

Core Mathematics Instructor (Grades 9-11)

Summer 2000-May 2001

Duties included the preparation of a curriculum for a 5-week intensive mathematics and science program for high school students, teaching the mathematics courses, preparation of the students for the ACT mathematics portion, and mentoring all 40 students while they developed a mathematics/science project.  Students returned to the NAU campus in September, October, and February of 2001 when continued help was provided to improve their mathematical skills.

Duties included the facilitating of the teaching and supervising of interns who were participating in a service learning project. College students went through extensive preparations to teach children in 1st through 6th Grades at Salt River Elementary School (on the Salt River Reservation).

The writing team at Northern Arizona University rewrote the mathematics curriculum for preservice elementary teachers. This was part of a tri-university grant between Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona. All three universities hosted conferences during the summer and I presented at ASU as well as at UofA.
