Division with Remainders

Dividing a whole number by another whole number and interpreting the answer can be complicated.  The following problems ask for different parts of the answer and can be solved on the TI-15.

1. Jessica has 22 pieces of candy to equally distribute to her five friends.  If each friend gets the largest number of candies possible, how many pieces will Jessica have left?

2. Sarah is putting her favorite pictures in her scrapbook.  If she has 35 pictures and each page holds 4 pictures, how many pages of her scrapbook will she use?

3. John bought a 14-inch long string of licorice.  If he shares it equally with two other friends, how long is each piece

4. Game: “Getting to One Game”

Rules:

Player A chooses a mystery number between 1 and 100.

Player B guesses the number.

Player A keys in the guess and divides it by the mystery number.

Player A reads the answer to Player B.

Player B guesses until the mystery number is found.

Notes:

Start with using the “Int ¸” for diving.

Then play a game with the answer in decimal form.

Then play a game with the answer in fraction form.
