Biology at

Plymouth State College

The biology group at Plymouth consists of eight faculty. We offer the following degrees:

The most recent degree in our department is in the BS in Biotechnology. It integrates chemical and biological topics. It is an open field in terms of employment and many of our past graduates in other degree programs already have jobs in the biotechnology field.

Past majors have gone on to graduate school or medical school. Others have found employment in the environmental sciences or biotech industries. The faculty pride themselves on a close working relationship with majors. Our coursework emphasizes both lab and field work. The department has the normal complement of tools normally associated with functioning institutions. We are particularly proud of our transmission electron microscope facility. The department has an ideal location for access to terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments. Funds have been made available for preliminary plans for renovation and expansion of Boyd Hall. Renovation and expansion will probably occur in the year 2001

Various faculty often sponsor trips in the winter or summer programs that take students to other environments. Most recently the destination has been Puerto Rico.
