Team History:
1997
In its first year in existence, the Fried Egg Sandwiches made
their mark in the Higher Education League of Fantasy Football.
During
the inaugural season of both the team and league, the Fried Egg
Sandwiches
finished the regular season with a record of 11-3, good enough to win
the
Cordelia Division. Having the second best record allowed the team
to earn a first round bye, after which the team prevailed in its two
playoff
contests to win the first Fantasy Bowl (and a nice check).
The Sandwiches' 11-3 record in the regular season ranked
second only
to the Vinland Norsemen; the 1123 points scored in the regular season
was
best in the league. Counting the playoffs, the team owned a 13-3
record and had scored 1283 points, both tops in the league.

1998
The Fried Egg Sandwiches completed another successful season in
1998.
With six players plus a defense returning from the 1997 title team,
expectations
ran high. However, injuries and benchings led to a revamping of
the
team by midseason. Despite the difficulties, the team sported a
regular
season record of 9-5, which tied for second overall in the league,
winning
the Cordelia Division in the final week of the season. The team
once
again won two playoff contests; however this time, a championship was
not
in store; the team lost in the finals to the Methane Explosion.
The Sandwiches' 9-5 record was behind only Sugar and Spice, and tied
the Rikka Racka Fiyacrakas, the Methane Explosion, and Tigger's Team
for
the second best record in the league. The 1143 points scored set
a new team record, and was third in the league behind the Methane
Explosion
and the Rikka Racka Fiyacrakas.
In its two year existence, the Fried Egg Sandwiches have won 20
regular
season games (best in the league) and four playoff contests (second
best).
They are the only two-time division winner in league history.
Counting
the playoffs, the team has a record of 24-9 (.727 winning percentage)
and
has scored 2653 points.
1999
Turmoil rocked the Fried Egg Sandwiches during the offseason, for the
first time in their existence. First the team relocated from Bozeman,
Montana
to Flagstaff,
Arizona. The move, dictated by the owner solely for the purposes of
his earning more money, led to a riot among team members. Barry
Sanders,
the all-time
leading scorer and MVP of the Fried Egg Sandwiches' inaugural season,
retired. Garrison Hearst, the Fried Egg Sandwiches second all
time
leading scorer (and second season MVP), suffered a severe ankle injury
and missed the entire season. Joey Galloway (Eggs 3rd all time
leading
scorer) and Rob Moore both held out for more money. Moore
eventually
signed; but was hurt in his second game back, and was largely
ineffective.
Of the top players, only WR Keyshawn Johnson and QB Peyton Manning
returned.
Losing 3 of their 4 best players and top three scorers all time proved
to be too much for the Eggs, as they posted a league-worst 2-12
record.
Giving up an average of almost 80 points a game didn't help
either.
While some players shined - The aforementioned duo, plus newcomer
Marcus
Robinson - the lack of a consistent running game (heck, any
running
game) proved to be the undoing of the Eggs.
2000
With their second year in Flagstaff, the Fried Egg Sandwiches hoped
to return some stability to the franchise after last year's dismal
season.
Anchored by franchise quarterback Peyton Manning and star wide receiver
Marcus Robinson, the offense was hoping to return to the high scoring
ways
of the team's first two seasons. First round pick Duce Staley was
believed to be the solution to the dismal running game, and for the
first
month that proved correct. Staley helped get the Eggs out to a
4-0
record. However, in that fourth game, he broke his foot and was
lost
for the season. Struggling without a consistent running game (due
largely to Terrell Davis), the Eggs limped to a 7-7 overall record and
lucked into the last seed of the playoffs. After being witness to
a record setting performance in the first round - unfortunately, the
record
was set by the opposing team - the Fried Egg Sandwiches regained some
pride
by beating Tigger's Team in the 5th place game.
2001
For the Fried Egg Sandwiches, the 2001 season was basically a repeat
of the 2000 season. The team looked solid after the draft with 3
time MVP QB Brett Farve, All-pro RB's Jerome Bettis and Fred Taylor,
and
perennial pro-bowler Ed McCaffery at WR. However, week 1 saw Ed
McCaffrey
break his leg, week 2 saw Fred Taylor tear his groin muscle (ouch) -
needless
to say, both were done for the season. Rob Moore, another WR,
never
saw the playing field all year, injuring his hamstring during practice
a few days before the first game. Bettis managed to keep the
injury
bug away for 9 weeks, and consequently carried the team - but after
catching
a pass and gaining a first down, he was so surprised his hip fell
off.
(That's how I remember it anyway) Done for the year.
Despite all of these injuries, the team somehow managed a 7-7 record
(again) and squeaked into the playoffs as the 6th seed (again) with a
bunch
of no-name castoffs...oh, and Brett Farve (can't forget him).
After
upsetting Tigger's Team in the first round of the playoffs, the Eggs
lost
the last two games (to the eventual champion Eau Claire Doctors and the
Snake-Like Continua) and had to settle for 4th place. However
given
the roster at the end of the year, 4th place was better than could be
expected.
2002
For the Fried Egg Sandwiches, the 2002 season was basically a repeat
of the 2001 season, which was a repeat of the 2000 season...you get the
picture. The biggest difference was the injury factor: for the
first time
in four years, injuries did not play a major part in the team's
inability to win.
Indeed, only a couple of players (#1 pick Curtis Martin and #6 pick TE
Jeremy Shockey) missed any time due to injuries. However the team
struggled to score touchdowns, averaging two offensive touchdowns
through
the first nine games. Then, the team started clicking...winning
five
of their last six to finish with a 7-7 record (again) and made the
playoffs
in the last week of the season (again), but this time with a #5
seed.
In the playoffs, the team scored over 100 points twice, beating the
Snake-Like
Continua by 51 (opening round) and the Vicious Wieners by 46 in the
third
place game; sandwiched in between those two games was a 15 point loss
to
the Old Stooges in the semi-finals. Even though the team took 3rd
and had a medicore regular season record, this was without a doubt the
best Fried Eggs team since year two. The team scored 1165 points
to become the highest scoring Fried Egg Sandwich team of all time (and
9th all-time overall), even besting the 1998 team for total
points.
Several players shined towards the end of the season; quarterbacks
Kerry
Collins and Daunte Culpepper, running back Tiki Barber and WR Amani
Toomer
all finished strong.
