FORMS AND INFORMATION The current members of the IRB for the 2003-2004 school year are Gary Goodnough (Education), Chair; Phil Hart (Philosophy); Brian Healy, (Psychology); Stacey Yap, (Social Science); Scott Meyer (Social Work); Lisa Lindgren, ( Business); Evelyn Stiller (Computer Science); Irene Cucina (HPER); and Victor Gennaro (External member). If you are a member of one of these departments, and supervise student research, please contact the member from your department. If you are engaging in or supervising research involving human participants, then you need to submit a proposal to the IRB. Before doing so, please read the policy of PSC's IRB. To do so, please download the following form (Statement Concerning the Use of Human Participants in Research) and fill it out. Then make 10 copies of this form, along with your informed consent form, and other information the IRB needs. Send the information to Gary Goodnough at MSC 38. Turn around time for proposals reviewed by the committee is typically about 10 days. Some research may be exempt from the review and approval process by the IRB. Such an exemption can only be granted by the chair of the IRB. This exemption would be based upon regulations promulgated by the Office for Human Research Protection of the Department of Health and Human Services. Turn around time for exempt proposals is significantly less than 10 days. There are several websites that might be of interest to faculty
and students
One of the areas that our committee will be reviewing before approving research proposals involves how the investigator provides for the informed consent of human participants. Information on informed consent can be found at the HHS IRB website. The NIH provides Guidelines for Writing Informed Consent Forms. Please check out these websites. |
