Laboratory Directions for Arthropods

In arthropods, the features that are most important are:
1. the way the body is divided into different parts (tagmata)
2. the regional differentiation of appendages
a. mouthparts
b. sensory structures
c. appendages for movement, walking, flight, etc
d. protective, respiratory, and reproductive appendages

Therefore, as you make your drawings of various species of arthropods, in addition to the thumbnail sketches, be sure to make larger drawings that illustrate points mentioned above.

The specimens available for this group include:
Merostomata--Limulus
Pycngonida--Pycnogonum rickettsia
Arachnida-
Argiope--garden spider
Tarantula--tropical spider
Boophilus--dog tick

You should be able to capture your own individual centipedes and millipedes
