These courses were developed and are sponsored by the Earth System Science Education Alliance (ESSEA) . This is the last discounted tuition course in a series of courses that will be offered as part of the three year project Preparing the Earth System Scientists of Tomorrow at Plymouth State University.

Spring 2009

NS5090.02 - Special Topics in EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE - 3 Credits
Plymouth – Boyd Hall 229
The course material is organized around the national standards for K-12 Earth Systems Science (ESS) education. Students will meet multiple times to share ideas in a face-to-face environment with the majority of class conducted online. The course is appropriate for any educator wishing to become familiar with or increase their knowledge of ESS. Familiarity with online classes is a plus but not a requirement. This semesters topics are: Analyzing Earth System Science Data Sets, What Hazards Do Solar System Objects Present to Earth's Biosphere, and Application of Earth System Science concepts to local contexts.

The class meeting dates are 3/7, 4/4 and 5/2 from 9-12 am in Boyd 229 on the PSU campus. The first class meeting is 3/7. During this meeting we will cover the online learning tools used in this class, and discuss the syllabus. During the 5/2 meeting we will determine the date and location for final presentations.
